Emergency Water Extraction

Emergency Water Extraction

There are many causes of water damage to homes and buildings. These include: heavy rains, leaky roofs, broken pipes, appliance failures, sewage back-ups and more.

The cause of the water damage MUST be considered when drying out a home or business. There are three categories of water to consider:

Category 1 – Clean Water Damage

This includes “clean and sanitary” sources of water such as: water lines, faucets, showerheads, and sometimes rainwater.

Category 2 – Grey Water Damage

This includes sources of water that have a moderate level of contaminants that may cause illness if ingested. Examples include: dishwashers, washing machines, and toilet tanks.

Category 3 – Black Water Damage

This includes sources of water with dangerously unsanitary contaminants that may cause serious illness or death if ingested. Examples include: sewers, toilet tank water, river/creek water and water from stagnant water bodies.

While the process involves more complicated procedures with Category 2 and Category 3 water losses, the overall drying process can be summarized in 3 steps: Remove, Clean and Dry.

  1. Remove the water, the contaminants and the affected building materials
  2. Clean the area and keep it clean utilizing containment barriers and air scrubbers
  3. Dry the area with directed air movement and dehumidification

Quickly cleaning and disinfecting an area of water damage may prevent microbial growth which can lead to mold.

Of course, once we dry the area, we can proceed with Water Damage Restoration, and perform a Mold Inspection to check for the need for Mold Remediation

If you have questions about either of these, you can check our Water Damage FAQ and Mold Remediation FAQ pages.
